Darkness at first, my eyes need to adjust. Then everything begins to take shape. The light from the full moon above seeps through the trees surrounding me. All around me, the forest is alive with its many inhabitants. I hear the wind lovingly caress each individual leaf causing a quiet rustle in the otherwise still night air. It was not a question in my mind as to how I got here. All I knew was that I was meant to be here. That was good enough for me.
As I take in the scenery I had immersed myself in, another sound breaks the ambiance. I hear a howling in the distance. I am not afraid of it. If anything, I welcome it. Without realizing what I am doing, my mind and body come together to create a synchronicity, which leads me to put one foot in front of the other and begin to walk towards the sound. I could not tell you where it was that I was going or to what. All I knew was that the sound beckoned me to explore something that I was meant to.
I walk until the trees become fewer and fewer with each passing step. Finally I come to the edge of the forest. Overlooking before me was a scene so serene and spectacular. I took another step. I was near a cliff overlooking a vast sea. The night sky with the giant moon perched slightly above the horizon was the perfect lighting for this moment. It was a star-filled sky. The ocean from below reflected the twinkling of the stars in its depths. The howling had stopped; I was where I needed to be, it had done its job. I took another step. The sea and sky had come together with me in this moment.
Slowly I walked until I was at the edge of the cliff. I stood there basking in the beauty that lay before me. I felt as though, on accident, but of course very much on purpose, I had stumbled across God. There was a presence in and around me that made me feel at peace in a way that one can only begin to contemplate, but never quite reach. Here was the Universe laid out before me in its entirety. I closed my eyes and soak it all in. I realize that my face is streaked with tears. I did not know how to take in everything that was going on before me, in me. The tears just kept coming. But, they were of joy. I was so truly happy. So truly aghast with wonder at what I was experiencing. I smile and open my eyes, knowing I was no longer alone.
I look to my right and she is standing there. Contemplating the same wonder I was experiencing. Again, I am not surprised by any of it. She is supposed to be here as much as I. I turn myself towards her. She follows suit. The moonlight hits us perfectly. Her curls fall around her face and down towards her back. There is a look in her eyes that I cannot quite describe, but it made my heart skip a beat. She looked lost, but there was just enough curiosity there for me to know I had to take the lead. This was a new territory for her.
I reach with my hand and brush a tendril of hair away from her face and bring her closer to me, her lips closer to me. This was a perfect moment. The anticipation. I am too ready. I glance down at her lips and then her eyes, I see the same feelings mirrored in her soul. I lean in and we shared the same breath. I wondered how anyone could have lips so soft, so supple. I was at home in the clouds.
