If writing is my first love, then photography would be the love child created by my union with writing. Not perfect by any means, but the essence of it was made through genuine love and curiosity. The reason I love writing so much is, well, because I can create a whole new world and get immersed in it. It’s very literally an escape for me. Escape from the dull, the basic, the blah. I believe in the beauty of the idea of consistently being inconsistent. When I write, I can create worlds many people cannot even begin to fathom on their own. When I photograph, I want to use the imagery in my mind’s eye and capture it and show case a perspective uniquely mine.
I find it so ironic that I get so busy creating worlds of fiction when those around me are so busy living in masked realities of their own making. I want to make people see themselves in a light that helps them be real with themselves. I believe that we as people get so accustomed to seeing ourselves in a particular way; we get uncomfortable when someone comes into our lives and makes us see ourselves in a wholly new light. That’s what these photos represent. They are beautiful, not just because of the subject (though that doesn’t hurt), but rather the overall perspective they represent.
At the end of the day, whether its a blog created by a great bullshitter or photographs taken by that same individual, these things, like the human psyche, present a perspective uniquely mine. I feel like I’m speaking to a specific person and I wonder if they will get it, but regardless, I want these to be viewed through my perspective and interpreted through yours. When looking at these photos, let go of the idea of perfection, let go of the idea of clean editing, let go of comfortability and immerse yourself in uncomfortability. Enjoy the product for what it is…a unique perspective.
